What a VIN decoder can tell you
Does a VIN decoder prove that a car has a clean history?
No. Motorly reads codes within the VIN; it does not check outstanding finance, write-offs, ownership, mileage records or mechanical condition. A decoded VIN is not a certified history report.
Is the decoded model year guaranteed for an Irish car?
No. Motorly estimates the model year from the tenth character. Year codes repeat and manufacturer conventions can vary, so confirm the year with the vehicle documents or manufacturer. The assembly plant result is a code, not a verified factory name.
What should I do if a VIN is unknown or incomplete?
