What Motorly does, what its data means, and who built it
I’m John Fox, the founder of Motorly. Motorly helps people researching used cars in Ireland compare listings, understand advertised prices and find the next question to ask a seller.
Motorly brings together used-car listings across Ireland, with UK import context where useful. Where enough comparable adverts are available, it compares a car’s asking price with similar advertised cars. It can show observed price changes, listing-age data and mileage-related signals when those records are available.
Coverage may be incomplete. The time Motorly first observes an advert is not necessarily the date the seller first published it, and these signals do not verify a car’s condition or full history.
Browsing cars, the price checker and the free marketplace check cost nothing. Listing a private car is free too. Optional Trust Reports are paid products; they provide market context and listing-history signals, rather than a certified vehicle-history report.

The site is still early. There are features missing, edge cases I haven’t handled, data gaps for certain makes and older models. I’m working through the list. The aim is to make price comparisons and the limits of our data easy to understand before you contact a seller.

What is Motorly?
Motorly is an Ireland-based used-car marketplace and research platform founded by John Fox. It brings together car listings, advertised-price comparisons and buying tools. For a third-party advert, the seller named in the advert sells the car; Motorly provides research and discovery.

Browsing cars, using the free marketplace check and listing a private car on Motorly are free. Optional Trust Reports are paid products. A free check and a paid report have different scopes; neither is a mechanical inspection or a certified vehicle-history report.

Motorly can show listing-history signals, such as advertised price changes and appearances in its marketplace data. These do not certify outstanding finance, write-off status, ownership, NCT history or the accuracy of an odometer. Missing data is not evidence that a car has a clean history.
Use the free marketplace checkAre Motorly’s price comparisons based on completed sales?
Motorly compares advertised asking prices, not confirmed sale prices. A price badge is market context, not a guaranteed valuation or a judgement of mechanical condition. Specification, condition and service history can change what a buyer is willing to pay.
Read the price-badge methodologyWhat does it mean if a registration check finds no matching car?
It means Motorly did not find a matching car in the marketplace data available to that check. It does not prove that the registration is invalid, the car has never been advertised, or its history is clear.
Check marketplace coverageHow should I use or cite Motorly’s market data?
Link to the relevant Motorly page and include the date or period shown with the figures. Describe price figures as asking-price data and retain any stated sample limits. Marketplace coverage is not a census of every Irish car or a record of completed transactions.
